This is our friend, Bob the Dog. Sometimes we call him Birchgrove Bob too! He lives really close to the park.
Well, one day he was in the park, and there was this cat. The cat
decided that he wanted to run away and Bob thought he wanted to play
chasings. Sooooooooo, as you would expect, Bob
chased the cat!
Heavens to Betsy! Nothing unusual about that. We all do it all the
time. Everyone is just having fun. Sometimes, if the cat doesn't want
to play chasings, they just sit there and look at you - and if looks
could kill!!!!!!!! You just know they are not in the mood.
Anyway, you wouldn't believe the fuss!! It was as if Bob had killed
an endangered species instead of just chased a cat! He didn't even get close to the cat. The Council man came down, didn't even talk to
Bob, but said that he was "a dangerous dog" who should be
kept on a leash and with a muzzel on if he ever went out. Can you believe
that?
Bob is REALLY friendly. He is very gentle even with really little
dogs. And he is even good with puppies - and we all know how annoying
they can be!
His owner had to go to the judge and try to make everyone know that
Bob is a good dog and not a mean one. We got hundreds of people who
know Bob, to sign a petition to say the Bob the Dog is a friendly dog.
We even signed it. Our mum and the mums and dads of lots of our friends
were really cranky with the Council man. He was just being silly.
Bob the Dog became really famous though - the TV people and the newspapers
had stories on him everytime he had to go to the Court. People in other
states even got to hear about him. Everyone thought it was really awful
what the council did. Lots of the people in Balmain put posters in their
houses and on their cars to say they supported Bob the Dog and said
things like "Save Bob the Dog!"
Long story, short - Bob is now officially a friendly dog. The council
knew that they couldn't convince anyone that he was dangerous so they
gave up. But they were still mean - they said that when he chased the
cat he ran onto the road without a leash on so his dad had to admit
that Bob was not under control (AKA with a leash on!) when he was on
the public road.
I don't know how much money the Council people spent trying to say
Bob was dangerous - but mum said that it was our money and could have
been better spent planting more trees for the dogs to wee on! Hear!
Hear! to that!
